The Battle of Midway was the pivotal point in the Pacific for the U.S in World War 2. It was fought between the Japanese and the American navies. The battle occurred 6 months after the attack on Pearl Harbor and 1 month after the Battle of Coral Sea. It marked the defeat of the almighty Japanese Navy as they lost all their naval superiority. The battle was fought at a tiny U.S. mid-Pacific base , conveniently named Midway Island between June 4-7, 1942. In the battle, both sides planned to trap the enemy's key naval force, its aircraft carriers, into a decisive battle with its own key naval force, and sink them. Achieving this would greatly destroy the other sides ability to operate in the Pacific. However, there was one key difference between the two navies' battle plans. The Japanese hoped for that the Americans would rush to defend Midway therefore having a large concentration of forces there that could be defeated. It would be a great plan if not for the fact that the Americans had cracked the Japanese naval code. This meant that the Americans knew exactly what the Japanese were doing and planned accordingly to it.
